How can parents opt-out for their kids regarding certain types of library books if the Destiny Marc Report (online summary) doesn't share the information? A Look at Three Elementary Books found in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties: "Sharice's Big Voice"; "The Terrible Thing that Happened to Barnaby Brocket"; "Children Just Like Me" -- (all 3 books with LGBTQ aspects).
Check out the latest books found in Escambia County, FL and Santa Rosa County, FL high school libraries: "The Thorn Birds," by C. McCullough and "Capturing the Devil," by K. Maniscalco. Some of our librarians and/or district media specialists are advertising these sorts of books through Destiny information, making these available for minors. It is staring readers in the face. All three of these books are currently in our schools in Escambia. ("Lady Chatterley's Lover," "Smash It!," and "Kafka on the Shore." ) All three books are extremely sexually explicit, and the third one you had voted to remove, but apparently some AP teachers, librarians and/or district media specialist decided this book (as well as others) needed to be available to minors, and this has been returned with parental permission for check-out. I also talk about the latest Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals Decision in Iowa regarding public school library books for children! Another win for common decency.

Why would Santa Rosa County have a book that showcases a man's 50-year span of sexual escapades (He keeps it all in a journal), until he finally can marry "the one" who had gotten away during his youth. These experiences equal up to over 600 sex partners; however, the last one before getting to his desired quest, is a 14-year-old girl, and he, by this time, is in his 70's!
This book was found in Escambia County at Pensacola High. It is a discussion of the primary source of "Gravity's Rainbow," by Pynchon, which includes fantasies about incest, homosexual rape, pedophilia, masturbation, and the eating of excrement. Prepare to vomit! Written report:
Parents must have the right to opt-out for their children with books about trans-children, nonbinary characters, same-sex relationships/attractions, but how can they, however, when this information is not revealed in the Destiny summaries (more often than not). Who will be held responsible when a child is mistakenly exposed to this through self-checkout? Pay attention to these new books found in Escambia County, FL elementary libraries. "Speechless," "The Blue Umbrella," and "Mid-Air," a book in this year's Battle of the Books Suggestion List. SRC is mentioned also. here.
It is time to hold librarians responsible. These books, found in both counties, contain content with references to extreme sexual content, such as orgasms, masturbation, being "on-top," parental advice on sex and dildos, as well as extreme animal cruelty and rape. There is also an unvetted link in one of the books bashing Trump supporters as racists and xenophobes. I ask you: Is this educationally appropriate for our children and a good use of taxpayer funds?
